Daggermouth Chapter 12: My Sweet, Spineless Heir
Greyson and Shadera arrive at his apartment with a Veyra security team sent by his father to sweep the place. Greyson stays on edge the entire time because contraband medical supplies are hidden under a false panel in his closet. The guards get dangerously close to finding them before their captain cuts the search short and the team files out.
Once the guards leave, Greyson scans the apartment and discovers eleven surveillance devices his father planted. He and Shadera argue over the mask law that binds them, the vodka she pours for herself, and the life she’s trapped living inside the Heart.
Things turn physical when Shadera accuses Greyson of being nothing more than his father’s executioner. They tear through the kitchen, trading blows, each targeting the other’s injuries, until Greyson pins her against the counter.
A staff member named Chapman walks in, and the moment breaks. Greyson retreats to his bedroom alone, bleeding through his bandages.
Daggermouth Chapter 13: Daggermouths Don’t Cry
Shadera wakes in pain and drags herself to the window just in time to watch Greyson carry out a public execution in the plaza below. She tries to leave but finds he’s locked her in. She kicks down her bedroom door but can’t break through the reinforced front door, so she grabs a knife and the vodka and tears through the apartment.
Breaking into Greyson’s bedroom, Shadera searches the space and finds a medical report detailing injuries too severe and too systematic to be any training accident. She also discovers a photograph of Greyson with an unmasked man she can’t place but feels certain she knows. She pockets it and keeps searching.
Greyson comes home in his Executioner’s blacks and finds Shadera sitting among his scattered papers. They argue about the morning’s execution. When she asks him about the boy he killed, he names him without hesitation and recites the details of his life and family.
Shadera confronts Greyson about the medical report and accuses his father of the beating. He grabs her by the throat. When she goads him, he lets her go. When she refuses to leave, he tells her he’ll kill her if she stays. She goes.
Daggermouth Chapter 14: You Know the Rules
In the basement of his club, Callum beats a Heart elite named Davish for assaulting one of his workers. Davish tries to buy his way out by revealing that Serel Industries has been diverting medical supplies and food from the outer rings, and that Maximus is plotting with other senior leaders. Callum takes the information, orders his guards to cut off one of Davish’s fingers, and has him dropped at a clinic in Heart South where the right people will see what happens to elites who cross him. Then he heads upstairs.
Upstairs, Callum finds Lira waiting in his office. Their conversation breaks off when Greyson storms in, furious. He tells them Shadera has been placed in his apartment and he’s been ordered to marry her. Lira admits she and their mother suggested the arrangement to Maximus to save Greyson after he broke the mask law.
Stepping between the two siblings, Callum lays out a plan. Greyson will earn Shadera’s trust until she lets slip what she knows about Daggermouth operations and who killed Brooker. Once they have what they need, they’ll expose her and push Maximus into having her executed, which would dissolve the Vow. Greyson agrees, asks Lira to find Shadera a mask before the family dinner, and leaves with Callum to clear the apartment of Maximus’s surveillance devices.
Daggermouth Chapter 15: I Could Show You
Shadera gets drunk and starts a grease fire while trying to cook. Greyson arrives home with Callum, puts out the flames, and takes over the kitchen while Callum moves through the apartment pulling out surveillance devices.
The two men are caught off guard when Shadera reveals her detailed knowledge of Heart surveillance systems, which she learned from running supply raids on Heart facilities. Callum feels impressed. Before leaving, he tells her Greyson is more than what he appears on those screens.
Alone, Greyson removes his mask and offers to take Shadera into the Heart before the family dinner. She identifies Callum as the unmasked man from the drone footage Maximus showed them, and Greyson confirms it. Both acknowledge that people they care about will suffer if their arrangement falls apart publicly. They agree to keep up appearances but admit the truce ends the moment either sees a real opening to kill the other.
When Greyson asks about life in the Boundary, Shadera accuses him of wanting absolution rather than understanding. The argument pulls them closer until they’re inches apart, before Greyson pulls back and sends her to her room.

Daggermouth Chapter 16: With What Army?
Jameson returns to camp after a day away, and his lieutenants Rook and Samuels quickly bring him up to speed. Four people have died from hunger, medicine has vanished from the south quarter, and the Heart is cutting off the last food shipments entirely.
Across the Boundary, the outlawed anthem has spread, though Shadera’s name remains unknown. Cardinal traders have stopped dealing with the Boundary after the Heart threatened their supplies, leaving the camp with barely a week’s worth of rations.
Jameson tells his lieutenants about the upgraded drones he shot down. The wreckage shows they were mapping population density and structural weak points in the Boundary. That’s the kind of intelligence gathered before a large-scale strike. He orders the bomb shelters stocked, doubles patrols along the northern edge, and arranges a meeting with Cardinal rebels to address the food situation.
Before Rook and Samuels leave, Jameson tells them he’ll be going into the Heart in two days with Jaeger to bring Shadera out. Rook protests, insisting the camp needs him. Jameson overrules her and makes it clear she’ll take command if he doesn’t return.
Daggermouth Chapter 17: You Don’t Get To Say That
Lira arrives at the training hall and finds Callum waiting. They spar, and the session turns emotional when Callum admits he misses her. Lira confronts him about leaving five years ago, tells him her heart can’t go through it again, and walks out before he can respond.
At the apartment, Greyson and Shadera share a tense morning over coffee. Greyson tells her he heard her through the walls the night before while she was pleasuring herself. Lira arrives, takes one look at them, and accuses Greyson of sleeping with Shadera. Both deny it with matching hostility.
Lira presents Shadera with a custom skull mask Greyson designed for her. The mask is black obsidian with silver filigree, deliberately set against Heart tradition. Shadera is caught off guard.
When Shadera asks what Lira does, Lira admits she controls the Heart’s public narrative, then speaks with unexpected honesty about her own powerlessness within the system and the cost of surviving under their father. She tells Shadera they share a common enemy in Maximus. The conversation shifts the atmosphere between them without making them allies.
Before leaving, Lira warns Shadera that the family dinner is a test meant to find her limits and that the Vow ceremony is four days away. In the hallway, she tells Greyson that if he wants Shadera to trust them, he needs to be honest with her about what life in the Heart is like for women after the Vow.
Daggermouth Chapter 18: Thank You
Greyson takes Shadera on a tour of the Heart using credentials Callum forged. He shows her the military district, weapons facilities, and the trading base, where she learns New Found Haven trades with two other surviving city-states.
At the agricultural domes, Shadera sees the scale of food being produced while the outer rings starve. Greyson acknowledges the injustice without defending it, then pulls back before saying more than he intended.
Greyson and Shadera pass through the Entertainment District, where Greyson tells her Callum essentially owns everything in it and that, outside their father, Callum is the most dangerous man in the Heart.
On the drive back, Shadera asks if he believes in the Heart’s system. Greyson tells Chapman to step out, then admits that he doesn’t, that he hates his father, and that staying in his role lets him do things a dead man couldn’t. He stops short of saying what those things are.
Back at the apartment, Greyson and Shadera find clothes from Lira waiting for the family dinner. Before retreating to his study, Greyson tells Shadera he isn’t asking her to believe in the Heart, only to survive it long enough to find a way out for both of them.
Daggermouth Chapter 19: I Didn’t Know
Greyson and Shadera arrive at Maximus’s penthouse for dinner. Maximus names Jameson as the rebel leader known as Ghost, shaking both Greyson and Shadera. Greyson realizes Ghost is his own Boundary contact.
The dinner remains tense but continues smoothly until Lira defends Greyson and Maximus grabs her by the throat. When Elara rushes to intervene, Maximus strikes her down. Greyson charges him and takes a bullet in the shoulder. When he keeps coming, Maximus turns the gun on Elara and Greyson stops. He warns his father he’ll kill him if he touches Lira again and walks out with Shadera and Lira.
In the elevator, Lira has a panic attack, and Shadera talks her through it. Back at the apartment, Greyson sends Lira to Callum for protection, then loses control and tears the apartment apart. Shadera waits it out and cleans Greyson’s wound.
What follows is Greyson and Shadera’s most honest exchange yet. Shadera tells him she watched Maximus execute her parents as a child for loving across ring lines. Greyson pulls off his shirt and shows her the skull tattoo covering his back, surrounded by scars from abuse. Shadera cups his face and tells him he isn’t his father and that death doesn’t have to be his legacy. They part to their separate rooms.
Daggermouth Chapter 20: I Promise
Lira arrives at Callum’s apartment visibly injured. He learns Maximus attacked her at dinner and shot Greyson, who’s alive and with Shadera. After settling Lira, Callum steps away to make two calls.
The first is to an unnamed contact, arranging a meeting the following night where one person will be allowed to speak with Shadera. Callum makes clear that any attempt to extract her will end in death and that the plan stays in place until after the Vow ceremony. The second is to order his man to bring Davish in the morning with Serel Industries credentials so Callum can use his access.
Callum finds Lira in the bath, still wearing her broken mask and crying. Without hesitating, he steps into the tub fully clothed and holds her. When she says she can’t survive her father much longer, he asks to see her face. She lets him remove the mask, revealing the full extent of her injuries. He promises to destroy Maximus completely and tells her that her father will never touch her again.
