Daggermouth Chapter 21: I Have A Plan
Lira wakes in Callum’s apartment and walks out without her mask, a small but significant act of defiance. A public execution visible from the window strengthens her resolve. She steps away from Callum’s guards to call a contact she’s never reached out to before. She tells them she has a plan.
Across the city, Maximus puts his wife Elara in a hidden room beneath his residence and subjects her to punishment. He chains and masks her, forces her to endure the night standing, and inflicts violence to assert dominance. When he finally releases her, he demands she confirm aloud that she knows her place. He hands her to a maid for cleanup and medical treatment before any public appearances. On his way out, he reminds Elara that Lira is nearing the age of her own Vow, making clear his daughter could face the same fate if she defies him.
Then, Maximus orders Captain Mikel to place Lira and Greyson under full surveillance and tighten security around the upcoming Vow ceremony, giving strict instructions that no harm must come to Lira during the broadcast. Afterward, Maximus leaves for a military base to address growing dissent among younger officers.
Daggermouth Chapter 22: Everything’s Personal
Jameson meets Kestrel Farrow to push for an alliance against the Heart. She tells him the Heart has been pitting Cardinal workers against each other by rewarding those who meet quotas or report suspicious activity with extra rations. She then shows him footage of ten workers publicly hanged for smuggling seeds. Cardinal workers stationed at the weapons base have been held for ten days with no sign of release, and she suspects they’ve seen something they won’t be allowed to walk away from.
To strengthen his case, Jameson shares intelligence about a Heart drone systematically mapping every tunnel and building in the Boundary and argues that Cardinal and the Boundary need to coordinate. Farrow agrees to consider a formal alliance if he survives the night, since he plans to enter the Heart to extract Shadera.
Greyson comes home to find Shadera picking the lock on his weapons room. He finally explains that the Vow involves a public consummation before Heart officials, after which she’ll have no legal rights and will be considered his property. Shadera is shattered.
On the balcony over vodka, Shadera tells Greyson something he hadn’t considered. Whoever ordered the hit on his brother had to come from inside the Heart, since no one in the outer rings could afford the contract.
Greyson offers to take Shadera to the Entertainment District before the Vow. As they leave, he reaches out to steady her, and the moment turns charged. She pulls away, and both retreat from what almost happened.
Daggermouth Chapter 23: Four Hours
Jameson meets Jaeger and a small Daggermouth team at a Cardinal bar, where they suit up in stolen Veyra uniforms before boarding their transport. Their inside contact turns out to be Captain Mikel, Maximus’s right-hand man, which angers Jameson. Jaeger orders Jameson to stand down. Mikel gives the team genuine credentials valid for four hours and drives them toward the checkpoint wall.
The group clears the first two barriers without issue, but at the final gate, a commander stops them with intelligence about an extraction attempt for someone the rings call Python. Jaeger stiffens at the name. Mikel stays composed and talks them through. He parks three blocks from Club Thane with a two-hour window, and Jaeger assigns roles before sending Jameson after Shadera.
Inside, Shadera is several drinks deep at the bar, running her usual inventory of exits and guard positions. Greyson stays close until he heads upstairs to find Callum, where a woman named Maya intercepts him and leads him up by the hand. Shadera watches longer than she intends and dislikes what that reveals about herself.
Shadera pushes onto the dance floor, where a Veyra officer grabs her arm and forces her into a private anti-scan room. With no weapons and no backup, she drops into a fighting stance. The officer removes his helmet, and Shadera hears Jameson’s voice.
Daggermouth Chapter 24: Jameson Fucking Vine
Shadera recognizes Jameson and launches herself at him. He tells her he has a way out, but before they can move, Greyson walks in.
Jameson and Greyson square off, and Greyson makes it clear he sees Shadera as his future wife and will not let her leave. Shadera begs him to let her and Jameson go, but Greyson refuses, warning that Callum and Lira will be killed if she doesn’t take the Vow.
Shadera tells Jameson about Maximus’s threat to bomb the rings. Greyson then reveals that the medicine reaching rebel clinics has been coming from him under his own serial number, and the supply will end if Jameson takes her. Shadera tells Jameson she’s staying and asks Greyson to give them a few minutes alone.
Once they’re alone, Jameson reaches for Shadera, but she steps back before he can kiss her. He reads her instantly and asks if she’s falling for Greyson. She denies it, though she can’t fully hide how her time in the Heart has changed the way she sees things. Jameson tells her not to apologize for any of it, presses an encrypted tablet into her hand for daily contact, and says he loves her. Then he puts on his helmet and walks into the crowd.

Daggermouth Chapter 25: Do Your Fucking Worst
Greyson and Shadera come home drunk. She calls him her jailer. He throws Jameson back at her, and they argue about Maya, as well as Shadera’s near-escape, until they’re standing nose to nose.
A sniper’s red dot flashes on the wall. Veyra officers have been hiding in the apartment, and Greyson and Shadera fight through all seven, each taking a bullet graze.
When the last officer goes down, Shadera turns her gun on Greyson and threatens to finish her contract. He doesn’t flinch. She fires and hits his side. He fires back and grazes her thigh, and then they’re kissing. It goes further than either intended until a photograph slips from her pocket, a picture of Greyson with Brooker that she had no right to have. Greyson shuts down. Shadera refuses to answer, and he walks off and drives his fist through his bedroom wall.
Meanwhile, Jameson rides back into the Boundary and confronts Jaeger for knowing about Shadera’s arrangement before sending him in. Jaeger owns it. Jameson then explains that Maximus has threatened to bomb the Boundary if Shadera backs out and that Greyson has been smuggling medical aid to the rings, using it as a bargaining chip to keep Jameson in line.
Jameson tells Jaeger that the Daggermouths and the rebels must stop operating separately or they’ll lose everything. Jaeger agrees to a meeting the following day.
Daggermouth Chapter 26: Eleven
Shadera wakes hungover and forces herself to the kitchen, where she and Greyson exchange careful words without touching on what happened between them. Callum arrives to oversee the cleanup and reports that his men caught a Veyra officer running surveillance from a rooftop across the street.
Callum’s men drag the officer to the weapons room, where Callum beats him until he reveals that Maximus is planning a mass extermination of the rings with gas weapons designed to kill people while leaving buildings intact. He calls the plan The Culling. The officer admits that the Cardinal workers held at the military base served as test subjects and are already dead.
Lira arrives and walks in on the scene. In the living room, both Greyson’s and Callum’s covert operations surface. Shadera reveals that Greyson has been running supplies into the rings under his own name, and Callum admits his involvement with the rebellion. Lira is furious at both men for keeping her out.
The conversation stops when Callum mentions the officer’s name. Lira asks for Callum’s gun, returns to the weapons room, and shoots Marcus Webb dead. She tells the group that Marcus was one of eleven Veyra officers her father gave access to her when she was fourteen, a transaction Maximus used to buy their loyalty. Shadera goes to Lira while Greyson and Callum absorb what she has said.
Greyson calls for full transparency, and the group agrees to meet at Callum’s that evening. Before anyone can leave, Captain Mikel appears with a direct summons ordering Greyson and Shadera to Haven Tower immediately. Greyson closes the door and tells Callum to move forward without them if they don’t make it back.
Daggermouth Chapter 27: It Did Not Make Me Weak
Greyson and Shadera face Maximus in his Haven Tower office. When Maximus raises the issue of eight missing Veyra officers, Greyson claims he killed them alone. Shadera backs his story by placing Callum and Lira at the apartment to help prepare for the Vow.
Maximus doesn’t fully believe the story but moves on. He announces that Greyson and Shadera will be quarantined until the ceremony with no outside contact. Greyson refuses. Maximus threatens to kill Shadera on the spot and notes that Lira can serve as a replacement heir.
Shadera tells Maximus directly that he will fall and she intends to be there when it happens. Maximus orders Greyson and Shadera separated and forcibly taken. They fight but are outnumbered and pulled apart.
At Callum’s apartment, he and Lira wait for word. Callum asks why she never told him what was done to her, and she says she wanted to protect him from doing something that would have gotten him killed. They continue talking about years of unspoken truths. Lira says she never wanted to be sheltered from the reality of his life. Callum admits he hid who he was to avoid becoming one more source of darkness for her. They tell each other the truth and end up in bed together.
Afterward, word arrives that Greyson and Shadera are in custody, and the Vow is still scheduled to proceed. A separate message about a rebel meeting at Wolf’s Head that same night strikes Callum as suspicious. Lira refuses to stay behind. They arm themselves and leave together.
Daggermouth Chapter 28: Welcome To the Revolution
Jameson watches a Veyra convoy roll into the Boundary to enforce an unscheduled curfew. The residents don’t retreat. They come out.
A riot breaks out and Jameson joins the fight, killing several officers, including one who shoots a young boy dead. When the violence ends, the boy’s mother pushes through the crowd to reach her son. The street goes quiet. Someone starts singing the rebellion’s anthem, and the whole crowd joins in. Jameson tells them to go home, tend to their wounded, and be ready. He promises they won’t have to fight alone.
Meanwhile, Shadera wakes bound to a chair, beaten, and loses consciousness again.
Jameson arrives at Wolf’s Head still covered in blood. Callum and Lira walk into a meeting already in progress. Jameson draws on Callum immediately, and the room holds its breath until Jaeger orders everyone to stand down. Mikel is already at the table.
Lira reveals she had been in contact with Farrow after finding her number among Brooker’s things following his death, though she keeps her full reason to herself. Jameson demands transparency and tells the group about Maximus’s plan to bomb the rings. Farrow visibly reacts.
Callum adds that the weapons are incendiary gas bombs built to kill people while leaving infrastructure intact, and that Maximus is calling it The Culling.
Mikel tells the group that Greyson and Shadera are being held in a private prison beneath Maximus’s penthouse and can’t be reached until after the Vow. Lira asks why he’s so invested in protecting Greyson, and Mikel answers that Greyson is his son.
Before anyone can absorb it, Farrow says someone else is coming. The door opens, and a voice Lira would know anywhere says, “Hi, sis.”
