A Court of Frost and Starlight Chapters 23–28 Summary

This Sarah J. Maas A Court of Frost and Starlight chapter summary contains full spoilers.

A Court of Frost and Starlight Chapter 23

Rhysand visits Tamlin’s manor after spending the night with Feyre. He finds Tamlin alone in the kitchen, sitting motionless in front of a dead elk that hasn’t been touched. Rhysand tells him he’s arranged for Summer Court soldiers to be sent to the Spring Court border.

Tamlin barely responds. Instead, he asks whether Feyre will ever forgive him, then whether Rhysand forgives him for the deaths of his mother and sister. Rhysand doesn’t offer forgiveness, but he uses his magic to butcher and cook the elk anyway, tells Tamlin to eat, and leaves.

A Court of Frost and Starlight Chapter 24

Mor isn’t entirely honest with Feyre about her plans after Solstice. She does intend to visit the Winter Court, but she makes a detour first to Athelwood, a private estate she’s kept secret from everyone in her inner circle. She goes out for a ride on her horse Ellia, and while they’re out on the hills, she starts thinking through Rhys’s request for her to travel as a spy and ambassador to kingdoms the Night Court hasn’t touched in centuries. She’s torn, partly because leaving would make it look like Keir’s bargain with Eris actually drove her away.

Then Ellia spooks, and Mor notices an odd, still shadow among the thorns at the edge of the woods. She senses the shadow is aware of her, decides not to push further, and turns back toward home. By the end of the ride, the pull to go and take the mission has won out.

A Court of Frost and Starlight Chapter 25

Feyre arrives at Polina’s old studio to find it cleaned out and ready for use. She sees Ressina outside, and she tells her that Polina’s family gave her the studio outright and turned down her money, with Polina’s sister suggesting she donate the money instead to something called the Brush and Chisel, a charity that helps struggling artists cover basic living expenses.

The news hits Feyre hard, bringing her to tears and stirring up memories of her own years of poverty. She then asks Ressina if she would want to go into business with her and run the studio.

A Court of Frost and Starlight Chapter 26

Rhysand, Cassian, and Azriel travel to Windhaven to check on a new effort to get young Illyrian girls into combat training. Only six girls are out in the ring, working through basic dagger drills under Devlon, and Cassian notes that the numbers will pick up once the girls who traveled for the holidays return.

The conversation turns to Kallon, the son of a rival camp lord, who has been actively working to turn Illyrian warriors against Cassian and Rhysand. Rhysand and Azriel both hint at quieter ways of handling Kallon, but Cassian refuses both suggestions and makes clear he wants no part of anything underhanded.

Cassian is in a subdued mood throughout, and when Rhysand points to the girls training as a reason for optimism, Cassian isn’t convinced. For Cassian, it only counts when twenty girls show up day after day without fail. Rhysand tells Cassian to take it one step at a time.

A Court of Frost and Starlight Chapter 27

Feyre and Ressina nervously wait at their newly opened art studio for their first group of students to arrive. Ten children, along with some of the children’s parents, eventually show up and gather around the easels. Feyre smiles at the assembled families and begins to speak.

A Court of Frost and Starlight Chapter 28

Feyre is wrapping up an art class for children recovering from trauma when Rhysand arrives to walk her home for lunch. They take a moment to look at two standout paintings together.

One painting was created by a girl who lost her parents in an attack, and it’s difficult to look at. Feyre tells Rhysand she wants to keep the painting in her future office so neither of them forgets what happened or why it matters. The other painting came from the boy who’d caused chaos during class by sending a bubble of mixed paint straight into Ressina’s face. The boy’s “memory” turned out to be a wish for a future dog, with his parents banished to the doghouse.

Feyre and Rhysand head out into the cold, sunny streets of the Rainbow district and walk home arm in arm. Feyre tells Rhysand how genuinely happy her life has become, despite everything still ahead of them. The conversation turns into a quiet, emotional moment, and Rhysand ends up with tears on his cheeks in the middle of the street. They both say what they need to say and keep walking toward home and whatever the future holds for them.
