House of Sky and Breath Chapter 65
When Bryce and Hunt confront Baxian at gunpoint, he reveals that Danika was his mate and that they met about two years before her death, when she sought him out at a wolf gathering while researching ancient shifter bloodlines. Bryce starts to believe him when she recalls that Danika stopped seeing anyone around that time. Baxian also tells them her death was tied to her research, not the synth, which he believes was only a cover for something bigger.
Baxian explains the connection between Danika and Sofie. Danika found Sofie while tracing thunderbird lineages and eventually passed her a room number from the Asteri Archives, a number Baxian had memorized years earlier during one of Sandriel’s visits to the palace. It took Sofie three years of undercover work before she could access that room.
Back at Ruhn’s house, Declan can’t crack the archive system but manages to pull up palace security footage showing Sofie entering and leaving the room two months before she ended up in Kavalla. She went in and came out empty‑handed, visibly pale and shaken.
Bryce announces they need to break into the Asteri Archives in the Eternal City. Everyone objects since none of them know the palace layout, but Bryce says she already has someone in mind who does.
Later that night, Ithan slips away to handle something personal before what might be a one‑way trip.

Bryce meets Fury at a dive bar and asks for her help getting into the crystal palace archives. Fury warns her about the dangers to everyone Bryce loves but eventually agrees to share what she remembers about the layout. She also offers to get Juniper and Syrinx out of the city while events unfold.
Tharion tracks down the River Queen’s daughter at the quay to end their betrothal. She tells him she already knew he never wanted her and spent years trying to change his mind before giving up. She gives him one last chance to come Beneath, and when he refuses, she jumps into the river to summon her mother. Knowing the guards will come for him, Tharion runs toward the only person in the city powerful enough to make the River Queen hesitate.
Ithan goes to the Den with Hypaxia and asks the Prime to help free the wolf mystic held by the Astronomer. Sabine shuts the conversation down immediately, and the Prime says nothing, so Ithan walks out.
The Prime follows Ithan into the hall and asks about the mystic’s scent. When Ithan describes it, the Prime confirms that Sabine has a rival Fendyr heir and that the mystic is apparently her. The revelation reframes everything. Sabine’s visit to Bryce’s apartment was never about Ithan. She was afraid Bryce would find that heir before Sabine could deal with her.
House of Sky and Breath Chapter 67
Tharion races to the Viper Queen and offers to sell himself into slavery to escape the River Queen’s grip. She agrees and has him drink her blood, and the supernatural hold the River Queen had on him disappears. Tharion swears himself to the Viper Queen’s service and immediately feels her will taking over, but she gives him one last chance to help his friends before he must return to her.
Ithan has just discovered that the mystic trapped in the Astronomer’s tank is a Fendyr Alpha, and he’s certain Sabine would kill her the moment she suspected the same. He decides to stay behind instead of going to Pangera, sends Bryce a quick goodbye, and shifts into wolf form for the first time in weeks without pain. He runs straight to the Astronomer’s place to keep watch over the mystic.
Ruhn meets Day in their mental space, and she tries to end things, warning him that the dangerous man she serves will kill Ruhn if he finds out about them. Ruhn and Day sleep together anyway, and afterward, he tells her about the plan to break into the Asteri Archives. She panics and begs him not to go. Before she can finish her warning, she’s suddenly ripped away, leaving Ruhn with only a fragment of what she was trying to tell him.

Ruhn arrives at Bryce’s apartment at four in the morning with urgent news. He’s been secretly meeting and falling for Agent Daybright, who has just been captured by the Asteri. He wants to join the planned break‑in at the crystal palace so he can get her out.
Hunt and Bryce object. Adding a rescue mission on top of everything else raises the risk significantly, and Bryce even tries to convince Hunt to sit this one out. He refuses. The three eventually agree to go in together and call themselves “Team Fuck‑You.”
Bryce, Hunt, and Ruhn bring in Cormac and Tharion to plan a distraction. Cormac reveals that Pippa has been preparing a raid on an Asteri research lab north of the Eternal City. Tharion suggests they beat her to it by carrying out the raid themselves. The plan would draw Pippa’s rebels and the dreadwolves to the scene, blow the lab, and leave Pippa caught in the aftermath. Everyone agrees it is messy but workable.
Slipping into her room, Bryce stands over an old photo of herself with Danika, Juniper, and Fury. Hunt follows and hears her admit she feels lost and no longer knows who she is. He confesses he spent years in the same place after his world fell apart. Then, they acknowledge they’re both scared, but neither intends to sit out the break‑in.
Before Bryce returns to the others, she calls Juniper and leaves an apology voicemail, then folds the photo into her phone case.
House of Sky and Breath Chapter 69
The night before the major mission, Ruhn tracks down Cormac at a dive bar. Cormac talks about his upbringing and admits he was jealous of Ruhn’s friendships and of the fact that his father never managed to break him. He also apologizes for how he treated Ruhn in the past. They shake hands and agree to put everything behind them once it’s over, starting fresh as princes on their own terms rather than their fathers’.
Meanwhile, Hunt slips into the barracks before dawn to collect the weapons he’s been storing in his room. He runs into Celestina at the elevator bay. She briefly mentions her arrangement with Ephraim, and Hunt gives her a vague story about clearing out his room and dreading his new royal responsibilities. She offers to be an ally if he ever needs one, then lets him out through the veranda.
Hunt flies over the quiet city, knowing that within hours, the group will head to the Eternal City for the real mission.

Tharion and Cormac arrive at an imperial compound dressed in officers’ uniforms and talk their way past the guards by implying their visit is under Rigelus’s orders. The bluff works, and the guards wave them through. Once inside, Cormac tells Tharion that Pippa and her Lightfall unit are already hiding in the trees around the compound.
Cormac then slips away and teleports to Bryce, Hunt, and Ruhn, who are waiting in an olive grove near the Eternal City. He confirms the lab plan is moving forward and notes the palace has no magical wards protecting it. He brings the three inside one at a time, with Hunt going first, then Bryce, then Ruhn.
Inside a hallway near the archives, Hunt is struck by memories of what was done to him the last time he was there. Once the group gathers and waits, Ruhn uses the time to tell Bryce that he wants her to overthrow the Autumn King and claim the throne, arguing their people need stronger leadership.
Bryce resists, but the conversation is cut short when Tharion sends word that Cormac has blown up the jeep as the group’s distraction signal. Hunt channels his lightning into Bryce’s scar, and she teleports alone into the archives to uncover whatever truth lies there.

Bryce finds herself alone in a spiral stairwell inside the Asteri’s palace archives. She heads down and enters a long hallway with seven crystal pipes running up through the ceiling, each one labeled with the name of an Asteri. Screens beside each pipe show their current energy readings, and one pipe sits completely dark, belonging to the Asteri that was devoured.
From there, Bryce pieces it together. The palace is built from quartz specifically to channel firstlight into the Asteri, who depend on it to sustain their power. The Drops that ordinary people make, and the secondlight harvested from the dead, are all being funneled straight up to the rulers. The people of Midgard have been unknowingly feeding the very beings that oppress them.
Bryce lands on the obvious conclusion. If the firstlight supply could be cut off and people stopped surrendering their energy through the Drop, the Asteri could be brought down entirely.
House of Sky and Breath Chapter 72
Bryce, Ruhn, and Hunt are in the middle of a timed operation inside the palace when Bryce fails to return on schedule. Ruhn heads to the dungeons alone to find Day while Hunt stays back and waits. Instead of rejoining them, Bryce sneaks into a restricted archive room called Dusk.
The room holds star maps documenting every planet the Asteri conquered and fed on. Bryce realizes that every species living on Midgard was drawn there from elsewhere under false pretenses, essentially corralled into one place so the Asteri could harvest their energy indefinitely.
Bryce then finds the entry for Hel. The records show the demon princes had driven the Asteri off their own world and chased them to Midgard in an attempt to free the people trapped there. They failed and were forced back.
When Bryce searches for the Asteri’s original home world, Rigelus cuts in over an intercom and tells her it won’t be in the records because even the Asteri no longer remember where it was. Bryce tells him she’s going to kill him.
Meanwhile, Ruhn reaches the dungeons but is stopped by Mordoc, who recognizes him immediately. In another part of the palace, Tharion and Cormac tear through a burning lab after Cormac kills far more people than planned. When Pippa ambushes them and shoots Cormac, Tharion realizes Cormac entered this mission with no intention of walking out.
House of Sky and Breath Chapter 73
Bryce confronts Rigelus, who wastes no time making the Asteri’s nature clear. They’re parasites who feed on the power of Midgard’s inhabitants and see nothing wrong with it. Rigelus then explains why Bryce was allowed to survive the spring. Her Starborn ancestor sealed the Rifts between worlds long ago, trapping the Asteri on Midgard, and now he wants her to reopen them using the Horn bound to her body.
Rigelus then lays out what Danika uncovered before her death. Her magical bloodhound gift drove her to investigate shifter bloodlines, and she eventually pieced together that shifters are actually a different kind of Fae from another world. The Asteri had buried that truth deliberately, because keeping the two Fae groups divided made them easier to control and feed on.
Danika brought Ophion into the investigation and arranged for Sofie to go undercover and dig further, since Sofie could move unnoticed where Danika could not.
The worst part is that the Asteri engineered Danika’s death. They manipulated Micah into targeting her with synth, and he carried it out without realizing he was being used. Bryce teleports back to Hunt and Ruhn, but it’s already too late. Hunt is on his knees in gorsian manacles, and guards seize Bryce before she can act. She suddenly finds herself face to face with the Harpy.
House of Sky and Breath Chapter 74
Tharion finds himself cornered by a mech‑suit pilot who immediately opens fire. Cormac shouts at Tharion to run, but Pippa shoots Cormac, and he goes down hard. Tharion weighs his options, knows he has four hours before he needs water, and decides to leave. He slips out through a gap the mech‑suit blasted in the wall and runs for the coast.
Back inside, Cormac spots the Asteri and detonates himself, taking Pippa and the mech‑pilot with him in a wall of fire. By the time the building collapses, Tharion is long gone.
Meanwhile, Ruhn is chained in a cell under the Asteri’s palace. Mordoc drags Bryce and Hunt inside, shackled the same way, and makes it clear Rigelus engineered the entire trap. Mordoc tracked the group all over Lunathion and fed their locations straight to Rigelus the whole time.
When Mordoc leaves, the Harpy moves in. She singles out Ruhn and presses a knife to his throat, ready to drive it in, while Bryce screams at her to stop. Then someone crashes into the Harpy from the side and sends her to the floor. As the figure rises and plants herself between Ruhn and the Harpy, Ruhn catches her scent and realizes who it is. It’s the Hind.
House of Sky and Breath Chapter 75
Ruhn is pinned on the floor when the Harpy and the Hind break into a fight. In the middle of the battle, he catches something in the Hind’s scent and realizes she’s Day, the voice he’s been communicating with telepathically. He breathes her name, and she confirms it.
When the Hind gives Ruhn a signal, he grabs the Harpy’s ankle and pulls her down so the Hind can finish her off. With the Harpy dead, the Hind drops the act. She introduces herself as Lidia Cervos, unlocks their chains, and reveals she’s been working as a double agent.
Lidia explains that she tried to warn the group about Rigelus’s trap but couldn’t risk her cover. She also defends herself against the accusation about Sofie, claiming she attempted to save her with an enchanted beacon that summons ships from the Ocean Queen.
Pollux’s footsteps echo down the hall. Lidia tells Bryce, Hunt, and Ruhn they have to make the scene convincing, so Bryce beats her up just as Pollux walks in, finds the dead Harpy, and sees the Hind being attacked. Pollux and the Hind take the group into custody.
In the elevator, Hunt notices Bryce’s manacles were never actually locked. Lidia left them that way because Bryce knows too much to die here. Ruhn figures this out too, but he’s too shaken to let Lidia back in. She hammers on the walls of his mind trying to reach him, and he shuts her out completely.
The group is brought before Rigelus, who immediately turns his attention to Bryce.

Hunt spots his severed wings mounted on the throne room wall as Bryce faces Rigelus, the only Asteri present. Bryce taunts him with what she’s learned about how the Asteri secretly harvest energy from Midgard’s population. Rigelus responds by revealing how thoroughly he had played them, from disguising himself as a demon prince to orchestrating their movements to sending monsters after Bryce simply to sharpen her abilities for his own purposes.
Rigelus gets to the point. The star on Bryce’s chest is a compass back to the original Fae homeworld, and the Asteri want revenge on the people who destroyed their kind. He wants Bryce to open a portal to lead them there. Bryce agrees, but only if Hunt and Ruhn walk away untouched, permanently.
Bryce says goodbye to Hunt and Ruhn, and it doubles as a strategy session. Hunt whispers something to her, and Ruhn tells her telepathically to go through the Gate to Hel and return with armies to fight the Asteri.
Snapping her chains open, Bryce takes the Starsword from Ruhn, blasts Rigelus with her light, and bolts. Hunt breaks free and hurls lightning at Rigelus to cover Bryce’s escape, and Baxian, whose loyalty had once been in question, throws himself at Pollux to cut off pursuit.
Rigelus shakes off the attack and tears after Bryce. The hallway is warded, so Bryce teleports in small jumps and weaves through his blasts until she reaches the Gate. She throws herself through it, and darkness takes her while Rigelus screams behind her.
House of Sky and Breath Chapter 77
Rigelus leads Hunt, Ruhn, and Baxian out of the throne room in gorsian restraints, with Hunt completely drained of his power. Instead of taking them straight to the dungeons, Rigelus stops at the Gate Bryce used to escape, but no trace of her remains. Hunt is forced to his knees in front of it.
For a moment, Hunt thinks Pollux is about to execute him, but Rigelus approaches with his hand blazing with light. He presses it to Hunt’s forehead and brands the halo back into his skull, reclaiming control over him. The agony is unbearable, and Hunt screams, wondering in his final conscious moments if Rigelus wanted that sound to carry through the Gate to Bryce in Hel. Then everything goes dark.

Bryce arrives in an unfamiliar world, landing hard on a neat, well-kept lawn beside a quiet river. A winged male in dark armor finds her almost immediately and presses a blade to her throat. He doesn’t understand her, but he blindfolds her and flies her to a nearby house.
Inside, a group of Fae in strangely old-fashioned clothing gather around Bryce. She switches to the ancient Fae language to ask if she’s in Hel and how to find Prince Aidas. The petite, dark-haired woman in the group tells her no one has spoken that language in their world for fifteen thousand years, and that she’s definitely not in Hel.
Things get stranger when one of the males draws a black‑hilted dagger that looks exactly like Bryce’s Starsword. The two blades pulse with opposing lights the moment they’re near each other, clearly connected in some way.
Two more people walk in, one of them a winged male who could almost be Ruhn. Bryce explains that her world is in danger and that she ended up there by accident. She then begs them to help her reach Hel. The male introduces himself as Rhysand.
House of Sky and Breath Epilogue
Ithan stands guard outside the Astronomer’s building when Amelie, his former Alpha, appears in the alley. She snarls at him before slipping back into the darkness, and her presence confirms he was right to be there.
Flynn then calls with bad news. Ruhn and Hunt are prisoners of the Asteri, Cormac didn’t make it, and Bryce has disappeared from their world. Flynn tells Ithan he needs to come see the footage with his own eyes.
Ithan is stuck. He can’t leave the mystic alone with enemies circling, but he also can’t ignore his friends. He decides to take her with him.
Breaking the Astronomer’s doors open, Ithan walks to the mystic’s tank and tries to wake her. She doesn’t respond, so he pleads with her, telling her his pack needs him and that she isn’t safe there alone.
The lost Fendyr heir finally stirs and opens her eyes.
