House of Sky and Breath Chapter 14
Hunt is at the Comitium watching soldiers spar with Isaiah when Baxian approaches him. Celestina had ordered Hunt to partner with Baxian and help him settle into life in Lunathion, while Naomi is assigned to do the same with Pollux.
During Hunt’s exchange with Baxian, the Helhound mentions that the Hind is currently in Forvos with Archangel Ephraim, which means she isn’t actively chasing Emile. Hunt plans to pass this along to Tharion later.
At Bryce’s apartment, Tharion arrives early and finds Ithan home alone. He asks Ithan if Danika ever shared anything about Ophion or safe places to hide in the city.
Ithan resists but eventually offers one detail worth noting. Danika once told him she was researching something that could land her in serious trouble, then later claimed she had switched topics. Ithan never believed her, knowing how single‑minded she could be. He suspects she stumbled onto something significant through her history studies. Tharion lets it go for the moment, and he and Ithan sit down to watch sunball highlights while they wait for Bryce and Hunt to show up.

Bryce fills Ruhn in on what Fury told her about Danika being a bloodhound during their walk back to the apartment. She wonders if it connects to Danika’s relationship with Sofie, but Ruhn thinks that’s a stretch and warns her she’s too much of a political target now to go looking for Emile without serious consequences.
Back at the apartment, Tharion and Ithan are watching TV with a white cat that Bryce immediately recognizes as Aidas, the Prince of the Chasm. Hunt arrives, and everyone braces for a fight, but Bryce walks straight up to him.
Aidas tells Bryce that her starlight matches that of the ancient Starborn Queen Theia, then drops a bombshell about Prince Pelias. Far from the noble founder the Fae venerate, Pelias was Theia’s general who killed her, took her sword, and forced her daughter Helena into marriage to legitimize his rule. Both Ruhn and Bryce descend from him.
Shifting the focus, Aidas explains the bigger picture. The fight against the Asteri is the same war that has been running for fifteen thousand years. Hel has always been on Midgard’s side, and the Asteri buried that truth by rewriting history. Aidas tells Bryce to prepare her powers as the conflict comes to a head, but she’s reluctant to join any rebellion and doesn’t even know an Ophion rebel.
That’s when Aidas tells Bryce there’s already a rebel standing right behind her. Cormac steps out of the shadows. Before disappearing, Aidas calls him Agent Silverbow.

Cormac arrives at Bryce’s apartment and reveals himself as Agent Silverbow of the rebel organization Ophion. He demands to know what the group has learned about Sofie, and Hunt eventually convinces him to talk.
Both Cormac and Tharion are searching for Emile. Cormac promised Sofie he would keep Emile safe, but a fanatical Ophion soldier named Pippa Spetsos wants to weaponize him. Emile fled before Cormac could reach him.
Cormac reveals that Sofie had gathered critical intelligence about the Asteri, something significant enough to change the course of the war. That’s likely why the Hind wanted her dead.
Tharion then reveals that Sofie’s body was never recovered, so she may still be alive. The news visibly shakes Cormac.
To advance his mission, Cormac pursued the engagement to get close to Bryce and Ruhn, hoping to learn about Danika’s connection to Sofie and recruit Ruhn’s mind‑speaking ability for Ophion.
Bryce strikes a deal with Cormac. She’ll help find Emile and dig into what Danika knew, and in return, Cormac will train her in her Starborn magic and let her decide when the engagement ends. He agrees but insists the engagement must hold until his mission is complete.
On his way out, Cormac warns Ruhn that he knows about his mind‑speaking gift and could tell Ruhn’s father if Ruhn refuses to cooperate.

The group finishes processing the bombshell they’ve just been handed, and Bryce announces she needs to go back to work. But first, she asks Tharion what he actually wants apart from whatever the River Queen expects of him. Tharion says he wants answers and believes Cormac was telling the truth.
Afterward, the group briefly considers that “Dusk’s Truth” might connect to Pippa’s Lightfall squadron and “Project Thurr” to the thunderbirds, though they admit these are only guesses. They agree not to go to the Bone Quarter without solid reason to think Emile and Sofie are there, and they commit to keeping quiet and meeting the following night.
Out on the street, Hunt admits he’s scared. He lived through one failed rebellion, knows what it cost, and has no desire to walk into another. Bryce explains her reason for pursuing Sofie’s intel is leverage. Danika and Fury once protected themselves by holding dangerous information about each other, and Bryce wants something similar over the Asteri. Hunt isn’t convinced but chooses not to argue. They agree to find Emile not as an asset but because he’s a kid who shouldn’t be caught up in any of this.
Then Bryce tells Hunt she’s done waiting until the Winter Solstice, and they kiss. Hunt stops her. A passerby with a camera could expose her fake engagement to Cormac and ruin the arrangement. They return to the street, and Bryce makes clear she’s ready to move forward with him.

Tharion tells Ithan the truth about what happened at the Summit. Hunt killed Sandriel after she threatened Bryce, and Bryce killed Micah after he bragged about causing Danika’s death and the deaths of the Pack of Devils. The news hits Ithan hard, especially since Connor was his brother and he’d been completely in the dark. It also dawns on him that Sabine and Amelie Ravenscroft were at the Summit, knew the whole time, and never said a word.
Once Tharion leaves, Ithan finds Danika’s sword in Bryce’s bedroom and works through his feelings by sparring with it around the apartment. Bryce walks in on him mid‑session, standing on the coffee table with the blade in hand. The table gives out beneath him, and when it splinters apart, it exposes a hidden compartment stuffed with papers Danika had secretly stashed inside.
Over at the Aux armory, Ruhn fills Flynn and Declan in on everything, including Cormac being an Ophion rebel, the hunt for Emile and Sofie, and Cormac’s threat to expose Ruhn’s mind‑speaking ability if he refuses to cooperate. Both friends agree to help without hesitation, and Ruhn accepts that he has little choice but to meet Cormac and hear him out.

Bryce finds a hidden stash of papers inside her coffee table, full of redacted academic articles Danika had collected over the years. The documents challenge everything people are taught about the Asteri, suggesting they may be fallen stars rather than divine beings. The discovery shakes Bryce, since she now carries starlight inside her.
Among the papers, Bryce comes across a page labeled “Dusk’s Truth,” the same mysterious project that appeared in the emails between Danika and Sofie, but the page is completely blank. Bryce tells Ithan to hide everything and heads back to work.
Meanwhile, Ruhn tracks down his cousin Cormac at a pool hall. Cormac explains that Ophion’s most valuable asset is a spy called Agent Daybright, who operates at the very top of the Asteri’s inner circle, but without Sofie, the network has gone dark. He needs Ruhn to use his rare mind‑speaking gift to reestablish contact, so he hands over a quartz crystal that shares a frequency with Daybright’s own crystal. Ruhn agrees reluctantly and mentions that Danika may have sent Sofie to hide in the Bone Quarter, giving Cormac his first real lead.
Cormac then outlines what’s at stake, describing a planned strike against the Spine railway and the need to secure a mech‑suit prototype the Asteri are building for Vanir soldiers before it can be deployed.

Tharion is in the dry dock repairing his wave skimmer when the River Queen’s daughter shows up and makes it clear she wants to resume their romantic relationship. He lets her down gently, deflects her questions about who he spent time with in the city, and casually mentions that Bryce and Hunt are together to ease her jealousy.
Once the River Queen’s daughter is gone, Tharion thinks about how suffocating his life has become and decides to stretch the Sofie and Emile investigation out as long as he can just to buy himself some breathing room.
Across the city, Hunt spends most of the evening showing Baxian around the Comitium, realizing along the way that Baxian has almost no familiarity with modern technology after years under Sandriel, who banned it. Hunt softens toward him a little and promises to show him how things work the next day.
Afterward, Hunt catches up briefly with Isaiah and Naomi, who are furious that Pollux and Baxian have been given their dead friends’ old rooms. Hunt nearly tells Isaiah everything he knows about Ophion and Cormac, weighing whether coming clean might protect him and Bryce, but he holds back and heads home.

Bryce catches Hunt up on what she found in Danika’s papers regarding “Dusk’s Truth,” though nothing new turned up. She tells him she’s committed to helping Cormac, partly to find Emile and partly because she still wants answers about Danika, and she makes it clear she needs him with her. Hunt agrees, even though the danger worries him, and they settle on figuring out an exit strategy the following day.
Things between Bryce and Hunt turn intimate, but Ithan kills the mood quickly by shouting through the wall that he can hear everything. Bryce laughs it off, and she and Hunt agree to find a motel the next night instead.
After Hunt falls asleep, he drifts into a dark, in‑between dimension and comes face to face with Apollion, the Prince of the Pit. Apollion makes clear he’s been watching both Hunt and Bryce, says they’re special kinds of power conduits, and insists they have no idea what they’re truly capable of. He also warns that war is on the horizon and declares he has no intention of losing again. Hunt refuses to take the bait, and Apollion vanishes.
Hunt wakes unsettled, pulls Bryce close, and lies there grappling with the reality that one of the most dangerous beings alive has his eye on both of them.

Ruhn uses a comm‑crystal to contact Agent Daybright through a mental link. After exchanging code phrases, she delivers a cryptic message for Agent Silverbow, names Ruhn Agent Night, and cuts the connection.
The next morning, Ruhn relays the message to Cormac, who grows frustrated with the lack of real updates. He tells Ruhn to wait for further instructions before reaching out again.
Meanwhile, Hunt is summoned to Celestina’s residence. Pollux and Baxian caused a public scene after Pollux attempted to assault a woman and Baxian intervened. Celestina tried to hold Pollux accountable, but the Asteri forced her to release both men. They also arranged for Celestina to mate with Archangel Ephraim, with a ceremony planned around the Autumnal Equinox.
In a private conversation, Celestina reveals to Hunt that she was a secret close friend of Shahar and had tried multiple times over the years to secure his freedom without success. She asks if they can be friends and offers him her support going forward. Hunt thanks her and warns her about the dangerous figures from Sandriel’s circle.
As Hunt leaves, Baxian pulls him aside. Hunt suspects a personal matter is driving Baxian’s changed behavior, though he doesn’t know what it is.
House of Sky and Breath Chapter 23
Ithan joins Tharion to investigate a murder along the Istros River. The victim is a selkie who was tortured to death in a calculated, deliberate way. Ithan uses his sense of smell to pick up two distinct human scents at the scene.
Back at Tharion’s office, Ithan lays out what he thinks happened. He believes the selkie helped Emile make his way toward Lunathion and was later killed by Pippa for information about Emile’s whereabouts. Ithan figures Emile had probably already reached the city, and Pippa likely had too. Tharion refuses any plan to go after her without preparation, then heads off to deal with his queen, leaving Ithan behind.
Meanwhile, Bryce and her half‑brother Ruhn walk to a training facility. They argue over who should carry the powerful Starsword, and Bryce insists it belongs to Ruhn. She then admits she has a nagging feeling that gods from multiple worlds might be pulling the strings behind everything happening around them.
Bryce and Ruhn’s conversation ends abruptly when a Reaper appears out of nowhere, knocks Ruhn unconscious, and drags him into a sewer drain before Bryce can reach him.
House of Sky and Breath Chapter 24
Ruhn drifts in a dark void, where a voice he knows only as Daybright urges him to wake up and warns that his life is in danger.
Back in the physical world, Bryce falls into a sewer and uses her starlight to get her bearings. She finds Ruhn lying unconscious, suspended in the air by five Reapers above an underground river. She tries to negotiate with them, and they deliver their real message: Apollion wants to face Bryce at her full power. They also let slip that Apollion is searching the Bone Quarter for another potential opponent or weapon. Bryce privately suspects they mean Emile. Before she can ask further, the Reapers turn hostile and move to attack her.
Cormac suddenly appears and pulls the Reapers out of the tunnel one by one, making each of them vanish. He tells Bryce to blast the ones holding Ruhn, and when she does, they hurl Ruhn toward the rushing water below. Cormac catches him mid‑fall, disappears, then reappears and tosses Bryce the Starsword. The blade ignites with starlight.
When a Reaper lunges at Bryce, she wounds it. She follows up and kills it outright, sending the rest into a frenzy. Cormac grabs her and teleports them out before they can be overwhelmed.
Bryce, Ruhn, and Cormac land in the Aux training center, soaked and shaken. Bryce feels unsettled because Cormac can teleport and the Starsword killed a Reaper that was supposed to be unkillable.

Tharion is summoned before the River Queen to answer for inviting her daughter on a date Above. The queen grows furious, insisting her daughter is too fragile for the city’s chaos. Tharion deflects her anger without escalating matters further. She then orders him to track down Emile before Ophion reaches him first and warns that the other River Courts may already be moving on the boy.
As punishment, the River Queen assigns Tharion to pick up garbage along the city quay, a humiliating task for someone of his position.
Meanwhile, Ruhn visits his father after Reapers ambush him in the sewers and the Starsword drove them off in a way he isn’t ready to explain. Ruhn asks the Autumn King about the sword’s origins while keeping the real details vague. His father says it came from beyond their world, forged from the material of a fallen star, and suggests the Reapers may have sensed it was unnatural.
The Autumn King realizes Bryce was there too and tells Ruhn about the danger of a Starborn that powerful, implying that rivals like Bryce have historically been eliminated. Ruhn refuses to take the bait, defends his bond with Bryce, and calls out his father for trying to turn them against each other. They trade thinly veiled jabs before Ruhn walks out.
House of Sky and Breath Chapter 26
Bryce and Hunt track down Cormac near the Black Dock and ask him about his ability to teleport. He explains the mechanics, demonstrates on the spot, and agrees to try teaching Bryce, since her Starborn abilities might make it possible for her too. They arrange a training session for the following night.
Then, Bryce calls Jesiba to obtain Death Marks, which she and Hunt need to enter the Bone Quarter and question the Under‑King about the Reapers’ origins. Jesiba agrees but says the coins won’t arrive until morning. Before hanging up, she hints that Danika used to visit the gallery for reasons unrelated to Bryce and nudges her toward the security footage.
Back at the apartment, Declan and Ithan divide the work. Declan pulls old footage of Danika from the gallery while Ithan scans the Black Dock cameras for Reapers and any trace of Emile. They identify one of the Reapers from the attack and trace its entry point to a sewer entrance outside camera coverage, which suggests the Reapers knew how to move through the city undetected. Emile is nowhere near the docks.
The group agrees they need to enter the Bone Quarter armed with as much information as possible before facing the Under‑King. Suddenly, Bryce decides to go to the gym, and Hunt follows her.
