House of Earth and Blood Chapters 33–49 Summary

House of Earth and Blood Chapter 33
Hunt visits the Oracle and asks why someone would want Luna’s Horn. The Oracle says the Horn isn’t just for sealing doors. It can also tear open the passage between dimensions, and despite the old stories, it can be repaired. Hunt asks who wants to reopen the Northern Rift or how the repair works, but the Oracle can’t see those details.
The Oracle then offers to show Hunt his own future, but Hunt declines. The Oracle also offers to share what she saw in Bryce’s future, but Hunt refuses since it isn’t his place to know. Before Hunt leaves, the Oracle warns him to stay away from Bryce.

Hunt meets Bryce and Ruhn to share what he learned. The Horn isn’t just for sealing the rift. It can also tear it open again and someone can repair it despite the old stories. The three of them wonder if rebel groups or cults are hunting for it to bring demons into their world. Ruhn offers to check with magical healers for leads.
Later, Hunt asks why the Oracle seemed so hostile toward Bryce. When Bryce was thirteen, her reading went wrong. The vision was so intense that the Oracle screamed and lost her sight for a week. Bryce’s father called Bryce a shame and threw her out. The Autumn King stopped Ruhn from helping Bryce. Bryce took the train home alone.
While the group is researching, Hunt finds an image of an ancient vase showing a soldier killing a demon with a standard blade. The image suggests the monsters don’t require high-level magic to kill. Bryce zeroes in on something in Danika’s tracking data. Danika was assigned to guard the temple right when the blackout and theft happened. Bryce is convinced that the assignment links the murder to the missing Horn.
Bryce and Hunt get word that Briggs is ready for questioning and have an hour. While Hunt waits by the door, Bryce sits alone on the floor to grieve and pull herself together before the interrogation.

Bryce and Hunt question Briggs in a high-security holding area. Briggs is a shell of himself, but he insists that he didn’t kill Danika. He reveals that Danika secretly met with him before his arrest and offered him a chance to surrender. Briggs thinks Danika may have quietly supported his movement. He suspects that his followers were behind the nightclub bombing, but he had nothing to do with the murder or the missing Horn.
Back at the apartment, Hunt opens up about the years of brutal torture he endured after his failed rebellion. Rage was the only thing that kept him going. Bryce takes his hand and tells him he’s still a good person, nothing like Briggs.
Looking over the case files, Hunt thinks they missed something. The temple security cameras were largely overlooked because of the power outage. Hunt wants a specialist to dig into the footage. His theory is that Danika was there during the theft, recognized the person responsible, and chose to protect that person by staying silent.

Hunt and Bryce find Ruhn and his friends at a shooting range in Moonwood. Bryce wants Declan to analyze the security footage from the night the Horn was stolen. The blackout made the files look useless, but she hopes Declan can pull something from sound or heat signatures. Declan agrees to spend a few days on it. Bryce tells Ruhn to keep the investigation from the Autumn King.
Flynn bets Bryce she can’t shoot like a professional. Bryce fires three shots into the exact same hole. Hunt puts his shot right through the center of Bryce’s mark. It’s a small but genuine moment between them.
Isaiah calls with news that another body has been found in the Meadows, and they’re needed at the scene.

A temple guard is found dead in Asphodel Meadows. He was on duty the night the Horn was stolen, and it looks like the killer is working through anyone who might have seen something.
Bryce notices a pattern. Every murder has happened near one of the city’s main avenues, which sit on top of the city’s power channels. She thinks the demon summoner is tapping into that energy. Hunt asks the tech team to scan footage along those streets for temperature drops or power surges.
On the walk home, Hunt opens up about Shahar. He’s still haunted by Shahar and hasn’t moved on. Then, Bryce and Hunt run into Sabine, who spits on the ground and insults Bryce. Hunt wants to react, but Bryce pulls him away.
That evening, Declan calls with a major find. Someone tampered with the temple security footage. Someone swapped the original files with audio from another part of the city. Sabine Fendyr was the official with the clearance to do that.

Bryce and Hunt go over the new evidence and start to see Sabine differently. Sabine had the access and means to tamper with the security tapes. Her reaction the night Danika died never added up either. Sabine didn’t seem like a grieving mother. She seemed furious that Danika wouldn’t keep her mouth shut.
Sabine is Bryce and Hunt’s prime suspect. Danika probably caught Sabine stealing the artifact and threatened to go to the authorities. The recent murders could be Sabine’s way of silencing witnesses while making the Governor look bad before the diplomatic summit. But without catching Sabine mid-summoning, Bryce and Hunt have no real case.
Later that night, Bryce goes for a run and Hunt tags along. Afterward, Bryce’s old leg injury flares up badly. Hunt notices Bryce limping but lets it go. Bryce tells Hunt she has a doctor who keeps an eye on the injury. That’s a lie, but Bryce thanks him and heads to bed.

Ruhn visits a witch-run medical clinic to test a theory about repairing a broken magical relic. The healer offers a fresh angle. Instead of treating the artifact like a simple object, the healer suggests treating it as a living thing that needs to heal. That idea sticks. Ruhn starts to wonder if an old Fae riddle about “light that is not light” points to modern technology like lasers rather than traditional spells.
Afterward, Ruhn tries to get a meeting with Hypaxia, the new witch queen, but she’s in mourning for her mother and won’t see anyone until the Summit. Ruhn heads to the archives to comb through medical history for more clues, and it’s only then that he realizes he never caught the name of the healer who helped him.

Viktoria pulls Bryce and Hunt into her office with a major breakthrough. She caught the kristallos on a security camera near a main road in Moonwood the night before, confirming that Bryce was right about the demon appearing near the city’s power channels. Data from the night Maximus Tertian died shows a massive temperature drop that also matches this latest sighting.
The footage shows the demon circling the Den, the heart of Sabine’s territory. Hunt figures that if the target had been inside, the demon would’ve found a way in. Since it stayed outside, it was likely trailing a lingering scent. Search teams spotted the demon last near the Rose Gate but haven’t tracked it down.
Hunt rests his hand on Bryce’s leg during the meeting. Viktoria notices and shoots him a sharp warning look. Bryce then decides that she and Hunt will go hunt the demon themselves that night.

Bryce and Hunt head to the Rose Gate, the last place the demon was spotted. Out in the rain, Hunt figures the demon is using the city sewers to move around, which explains why it keeps appearing near major avenues and then vanishing off camera.
Nearby, Bryce and Hunt find a sewer grate and pry it open. Bryce is ready to jump in, but Hunt stops her. He refuses to go down without better weapons and gear, and he points out that using his lightning in a wet sewer would be a disaster. They agree to wait for backup.
Hunt has contacts at the docks who might have noticed something in the water. Bryce and Hunt plan to talk to the Many Waters people at sunrise and ask Isaiah and Viktoria to set up extra cameras near the Gate and sewer entrance.
Back at the apartment, Hunt finds a box of Bryce’s childhood toys in the linen closet. The box is filled with sparkly unicorns and pegasuses from a line called Starlight Fancy. Bryce catches him looking through them and explains why she still has them. Bryce and Hunt meet Tharion Ketos at the docks, a mer and old acquaintance of Hunt who now runs intelligence for the River Queen. Hunt asks Tharion to watch for anything strange in the water. Back at the gallery, Bryce and Hunt admit they’re stuck. They have reasons to suspect Sabine, but they don’t have anything solid enough to bring to the Governor, and Ruhn hasn’t had any luck finding the missing artifact either.
The two share a tense, charged moment before pulling back. Bryce decides they can’t keep waiting and tells Hunt that confronting Sabine directly is their best move.

Bryce and Hunt head to the Den to confront Sabine. At the gate, Amelie, the aggressive new pack leader, blocks their way while Ithan stands at her side as second-in-command. Hunt defuses the standoff by pointing out the young pups nearby, and Amelie lets Bryce and Hunt enter.
Inside, Bryce and Hunt tell Sabine that Danika was guarding the temple the night the artifact went missing. Sabine immediately denies it, which raises a red flag because Bryce and Hunt know she’s lying. She also shows no surprise when Bryce mentions the demon’s name. Bryce pretends to feel intimidated and retreats before things escalate.
On the way out, Ithan warns Bryce that Sabine wants Bryce dead. Bryce tells Ithan that his late brother would be disgusted by the pack Ithan is helping build. Amelie shouts one last insult from the gate as Bryce and Hunt leave.

Over a meal, Bryce and Hunt talk through their visit to the Den. They’re convinced Sabine lied about Danika’s presence at the temple, but Sabine is too powerful for Bryce and Hunt to move against without solid proof.
Bryce opens up about why the wolves hate her. Amelie had been in love with Connor for years, and when someone leaked Bryce’s private messages from the night of the murders, Amelie learned that Connor had feelings for Bryce instead. The harassment that followed was so severe that Bryce had to delete all her social media accounts. The wolf packs even wrote a cruel song to mock Bryce, and they still sing it in public.
Later, Hunt watches old security footage of Bryce on the roof of the gallery. He sees Bryce run through broken glass to chase the demon that killed her friends and understands how deep Bryce’s bond with Danika was. He thinks back to the funeral and remembers that Ithan was overwhelmed with grief. Hunt ends the day thinking about what it means to have a friend who remains loyal even after death.

Bryce tries to distract herself with TV at home, but the silence gets to her. She calls Juniper, who tries to persuade Bryce to return to dancing, but Bryce refuses and heads out despite promising Hunt that she’d stay inside.
Hunt is at a bar, but he isn’t relaxed. He had a feeling Bryce would leave, so he assigned an angel named Naomi Boreas to watch Bryce’s apartment. When Naomi calls, Hunt tracks Bryce down in a night garden.
Bryce and Hunt walk and talk quietly about why Bryce needed to get out. The tension between them peaks, and they almost have a moment. That’s when the kristallos strikes, lunging from the bushes and biting into Hunt’s shoulder before Hunt can react.

The kristallos’s venom shuts down Hunt’s lightning immediately. Bryce grabs Hunt’s pistol and fires a few shots to distract the creature. Hunt uses the opening to slash the kristallos’s throat and destroy its vital organs.
Naomi arrives with a medical team shortly after. A healer uses leeches to draw the poison from Hunt’s body while Micah handles the aftermath. Micah burns the demon’s body so the media and Sandriel find nothing.
Bryce and Hunt then share their theory that Sabine is behind the summonings. Micah doesn’t dismiss the theory, but he won’t act without solid proof. He also warns Bryce and Hunt that the Horn has probably been repaired if a demon like the kristallos is appearing.
Something is bothering Bryce. A full squad of trained wolf guards was torn apart by the kristallos, yet Bryce has survived two encounters with the creature. That doesn’t add up, and Bryce tells Hunt as much.
Meanwhile, Ruhn meets the same healer as before. The healer identifies the demon as a kristallos and mentions that she’s found research that could help fix the magical artifact. The healer is leaving the city briefly but will send Ruhn the information when she returns. The medwitch disappears on her broom before Ruhn can ask the healer’s name.

The storm breaks right as Bryce and Hunt reach the roof. The stress of the night catches up with them, and they fall into each other’s arms. Relief turns into something more romantic. Just as things grow more serious, Sabine steps onto the roof.

Sabine catches Bryce and Hunt off guard, holding them at gunpoint. Bryce accuses her of killing Danika, and the charge stuns Sabine. Sabine lowers the weapon and admits to tampering with the security tapes and lying to the authorities to protect Danika’s reputation. Danika stole the Horn.

Danika stole the artifact during the blackout at the temple. Sabine figured it out from the audio on the security tapes and removed the evidence to protect Danika’s reputation.
Sabine denies any involvement in the demon attack or the murder. She explains that she came to the roof to warn Bryce and Hunt. According to Sabine, Danika died because she was too reckless to keep the theft quiet. Sabine warns Bryce and Hunt that she’ll kill them if they ruin Danika’s legacy. Then she shifts into her wolf form and leaps off the roof into the city.
