Fury Bound Chapter 13
Meryn welcomes the head of the religious order at the palace before the ceremony. The woman tries to grab Meryn’s crown, but Anassa stops her. The Mother Priestess recognizes the gemstone as a Goddess Tear, which she thought was lost, questions Meryn about her beliefs, realizes Meryn isn’t a true follower, and leaves without a word.
The next day, Meryn travels to the nearby soldiers’ city with her friends to find an expert on her bracelet. Meryn notices that Izabel and Tomison have started a relationship. She suggests they visit their families after the meeting, but Nevah and Tomison admit their relatives don’t support Meryn’s claim. Tomison even says his family might side with the enemy in the west. Anassa goes for Tomison’s wolf in fury, and Meryn pulls her back, but the tension lingers.
Back at the castle, Meryn tells Saela what she has learned. The bracelet was made with dark magic, and no safe way to remove it is known. The legendary sword also cannot be repaired.
Meryn then notices her mother’s necklace glowing like the gem in her crown and wonders if it’s also a Tear. She gives Saela the task of researching the gemstones to give her something meaningful to focus on.
Fury Bound Chapter 14
Stark returns to the castle and reports to Siegrid. She tells Stark preparations are mostly on track, then drops a shocking demand. She wants Stark to marry Meryn, manipulate the throne through the union, and have a child as soon as possible. Stark is livid and nearly attacks her, but he holds back. A fight now would ruin everything. Stark tells her they’ll discuss it later and storms out.
In the hallway, Stark punches a wall. Meryn opens her door and lets him in. Stark notices that she looks exhausted and thin, then updates her on the guest list. Nearly every noble family will attend the coronation.
Saela joins Meryn and Stark and shares what she has discovered about the gems. Meryn mentions that the priestess called the gemstone in her crown a Goddess Tear and seemed deeply unsettled by it. Saela believes the opal in their family necklace is the same kind and is digging into their ancestry through these stones. Stark promises to help before he leaves.
Fury Bound Chapter 15
The morning of the coronation is hard. Saela is in tears, terrified she might hurt someone. Meryn insists that she has to be there or people will worry, and Saela agrees.
Meryn’s friends help her into her royal gown, and she walks to the throne room with her wolf and her sister. When the moment comes to show humility, Meryn refuses to undress as previous kings did and instead kneels with her head to the floor. The Mother Priestess marks Meryn’s face, hands, and chest with a bitter‑smelling oil.
As the priestess reaches for the crown, Meryn spots a familiar gem on the woman’s thumb ring, a pear-shaped stone that looks exactly like the one in the crown and Saela’s necklace. She has no time to think about it. The priestess crowns Meryn the new Queen of Nocturna. The ceremony stops when the main doors are thrown open.
Fury Bound Chapter 16
The throne room doors burst open, and a massive pack of direwolves floods in. They bow to Anassa and Meryn, then pad out just as quickly. The crowd erupts into cheers for their new queen.
The party that follows is far less triumphant. Meryn gets stuck working through a line of insufferable nobles. Lord Eisenfall is the worst, coldly dismissing Noemi as illegitimate rather than acknowledging her as a daughter. Then the Mother Priestess tries to rip the opal necklace from Saela’s neck, insisting that Meryn has no right to the sacred gems. Meryn doesn’t back down and has Siegrid throw her out.
Meryn slips away to a balcony and finds Stark already there. The moment between them is quiet but electric. Meryn nearly admits how much the shadow realm scares her before Siegrid hauls her back inside for the toasts.
Once seated, Izabel reaches over and takes a sip from Meryn’s untouched goblet. She immediately starts shaking and collapses to the floor. The wine was poisoned, and the intended target was Meryn.
Meryn reaches out to Anassa, but the wolf is too far away. It doesn’t look like Izabel is going to survive.
Fury Bound Chapter 17
Izabel dies before anyone can reach her.
Meryn snaps. She snuffs out every candle, locks the doors with her magic, and demands to know who killed her friend. A terrified servant confesses she was paid to deliver the poisoned wine and points at Councilor Gerhold. Meryn lifts the councilor off the floor with the shadows, but he stays defiant and shouts his loyalty to Killian. The dark energy surges out of control, killing him along with his wife and two sons.
The violence jolts Meryn back to her senses. She tells the horrified crowd she won’t tolerate betrayal and that every life in her kingdom has value regardless of status. The nobles bow in a mix of fear and respect. Meryn orders Stark to remove the bodies and tells Siegrid to lock down the palace.
Meryn then finds Venna, and they grieve together. Anassa eventually returns, but even Meryn’s bond with her isn’t enough to dull the pain of losing Izabel.
Fury Bound Chapter 18
Meryn attends Izabel’s funeral with Stark and holds herself together through Venna’s speech.
Afterward, Tomison confronts Meryn and blames her directly for Izabel’s death, telling her that Izabel would still be alive if Meryn hadn’t pursued the throne. His grief turns dangerous when his direwolf lunges at her. Stark and Cratos step in, and Alpha Egith forces everyone to stand down.
Meryn removes Tomison from the Council and active duty so he can grieve in private. She offers the same to Venna, but Venna refuses. She needs to stay busy to stay sane.
Later, Meryn apologizes to her advisors for the deaths of the councilor’s family. Igor admits he’s lost respect for her, though Siegrid points out that many of the Bonded saw it as a show of strength. Meryn then appoints Igor as the temporary Councilor of Sturmfrost, and Siegrid prepares to leave for the battlefront the next morning.
The meeting cuts short when everyone feels a sudden shock through their mental link. The entire Phylax pack has betrayed them and joined Killian’s side.
Fury Bound Chapter 19
Stark and Noemi are with the wolves when Noemi collapses. Her pack is switching sides to join Killian. Stark holds her down and calls to Meryn through their mental link. Meryn orders Noemi to stay in the city and ignore her pack leader. Noemi gives in. Afterward, Stark tells Meryn he loves Noemi, a lie meant to keep her at a distance.
At the war council, Egith explains that losing the Phylax pack has left the kingdom’s main food source unprotected. Siegrid proposes sending Meryn to that region to raise magical shields while the other armies draw the enemy’s attention elsewhere. Meryn accepts, and Stark and Noemi will go with her.
When the meeting ends, Stark corners Siegrid and accuses her of causing the betrayal. He reminds her that she ignored Meryn’s warnings and sent Tormun into a trap. Stark says he’ll never marry Meryn, but he’ll protect her from Siegrid’s schemes. Siegrid is unbothered and tells him to leave.
Fury Bound Chapter 20
Meryn falls asleep and finds herself back in the shadow realm with Killian. He claims he had nothing to do with the poisoning and tries to manipulate her with talk of love. When Killian threatens Saela, Meryn fights her way awake and finds Stark sitting in her room. She tells Stark everything.
Stark offers to stay and promises to wake Meryn if he senses the darkness taking hold. For the first time in weeks, Meryn gets a full night of rest. Stark stays the next night too.
The group sets out for Weisenstat. Venna joins to stay busy, while Nevah stays behind to check on Tomison. Meryn and Saela argue over whether it’s safe for Saela to come, but Meryn gives in. Meryn also brings the broken shards of the Dire Blade.
On the road, Saela feels the urge for blood. Meryn takes Anassa into the woods to hunt for her sister. Saela asks if a cure actually exists or if Meryn is just making empty promises. Before Meryn can answer, an armed man steps out of the brush and presses a knife to Saela’s neck.
Fury Bound Chapter 21
Stark, Venna, and Noemi rush into the clearing to find Saela held at knifepoint by a deserter backed by thirty soldiers still loyal to Killian. Stark moves to the edge of the woods while Meryn tries to negotiate. The soldiers refuse and hurl slurs and threats at Meryn. She tells Stark to handle it.
The lead soldier falls when Stark strikes, and a fight breaks out. The direwolves join in, and the group wipes out the entire unit in minutes.
But Saela can’t hold back. She breaks away and runs toward one of the corpses to feed. Meryn tries to stop her, but it’s too late. Venna and Noemi watch in shock and disgust. They finally see what Saela has become and realize that Meryn has been keeping a dangerous secret from them.
Fury Bound Chapter 22
Meryn has to answer to Noemi and Venna after they witness Saela feeding. Noemi’s annoyed at being kept in the dark, but Venna’s deeply hurt. Venna accuses Meryn of putting her in danger by letting her spend time alone with Saela without warning. The group then agrees that Noemi and Venna will head to Linsfall while Meryn and Stark stay behind with Saela.
At camp, Stark takes off his shirt, and Meryn sees his body covered in deep, deliberate scars. Stark tells Meryn that a weapons trainer hired by Siegrid tortured him throughout his childhood. He points out a scar on his jaw that his mother gave him when he was twelve. Meryn’s fury sends her dark magic spiraling until her wolf calms her down. Stark says the scars make people fear him, and that fear keeps Meryn safe. They share an intimate moment before Saela wakes up coughing.
The next morning, Venna forgives Meryn on the condition that she promises to be more honest. Noemi makes peace as well, and the group moves on. Near Weisenstat, they spot heavy smoke on the horizon. The enemy has broken through and is destroying the farmland. It’s far worse than they expected.
Fury Bound Chapter 23
Meryn arrives at the battle camp to find total chaos. Siegrid delivers a grim update. A powerful Siphon general has arrived with an army, and the original plan is dead.
Through her foresight, Meryn sees that nearly every outcome ends in the deaths of her friends and family. The only path to success runs through her shadow magic. Siegrid is reluctant but orders Stark to accompany Meryn, noting that his family history gives him a unique protection against the shadows.
Just before dawn, Meryn asks Saela to borrow their mother’s necklace, hoping it will boost her power. The moment Meryn takes it, Saela’s eyes go blank, and she says she has to go to Killian. The necklace was the only thing blocking his influence. Meryn puts it back, tells Saela never to remove it, warns Venna to watch her, then goes to join Stark.
