The Ballad of Falling Dragons Chapter 97
Kaan binds his wounds and searches for Rygun, feeling the dragon’s life slip away. The Elding Bird hobbles past, collapses beside Arkyn’s body, and transforms into a woman with his sword lodged in her back. Following the blood trail, Kaan finds Rygun in a crater, covered in frost and missing an eye.
No answer comes when Kaan calls out to the gods. He tries to return the dragonflame to Rygun, but the dragon refuses and severs their mental connection. Too weak to fly, Rygun pulls Kaan against his chest and curls around him instead. Kaan hums a song as his vision fades. Just before losing consciousness, he sees a silver‑scaled creature in the sky and hears it roar.
The Ballad of Falling Dragons Chapter 98
Raeve peeks in on Ahvi and sees that he’s safe with the Fate Herder. In the next room, a Fleshthread named Pidra tends to Kaan and Kyzari. Raeve sends Pidra to rest and bolts the door.
With gentle care, Raeve places the repaired parchment lark in Kyzari’s hand and lies down between her daughter and Kaan. Kaan wakes briefly, choking on emotion when he sees that Kyzari is alive, and passes along a message from Slátra saying she’s waiting for Raeve. Raeve comforts Kaan until he falls back to sleep.
Raeve enters her internal lake and finds Slátra waiting in a quiet den. The two reunite peacefully. Slátra shows Raeve a marbled stone holding both their memories. She then reveals a vision of the day Kyzari was born.
The Ballad of Falling Dragons Chapter 99
Elluin gives birth to a daughter with Slátra’s help. The dragon’s presence encourages the baby to take her first breath. Elluin names the child Kyzari as a tribute to her family and to Kaan.
Before Elluin can bond with the infant, Tyroth bursts in with a Bloodlace. He had Elluin drugged and orders the maids to clear the room. Once the Bloodlace confirms that Kaan is the father, Tyroth drives a barb of stone through Elluin’s heart. He takes the baby and forces the diadem onto her forehead. Elluin realizes she’s dying and that she never got to tell Kyzari she loves her.
Slátra returns to find Elluin dead and carries her body away. She cannot strike Tyroth because he uses Kyzari as a shield. Forced to retreat, Slátra rises into the atmosphere and settles among her ancestors’ resting place. Rather than surrender to death, she places the silver essence of her soul into Elluin’s chest, hoping the magic will one day allow Elluin to speak to her daughter. Slátra’s body hardens into stone.
The Ballad of Falling Dragons Chapter 100
Elluin opens her eyes and finds herself cradled within Slátra’s massive claw. The memory of Tyroth murdering her and stealing her newborn strikes immediately. She vows to seek justice for Kaan and Kyzari and to avenge herself and the dragon who saved her.
The Ballad of Falling Dragons Epilogue
Sereme digs Arkyn out of the snow, takes a piece of his flesh, and drops it into her vial. She pours alcohol over his remains and sets them aflame, hoping the fire will transform him into a loyal servant who will finally give her the devotion she craves.
A man who looks as though he has survived a long journey steps out of the smoke. Sereme knows he’s Haedeon Neván. He appears confused and hungry, so she offers him dried meat and watches him closely as the flames grow behind her.
